NOT SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Oh! its so hot summer days I sighed and kept the bag over my desk. Shri was already at his desk and he looked his watch and said  "its 9.30, you are late by 30 minutes".. I just threw a wicked smile and went to comb my fizzy hair. It was common to meet Deepti there in the rest room every morning when I go to freshen up. with a clip in her mouth and a comb brushing her lengthy hair she just waved. I started with my usual complaint list. Its very hot out, monotonous work and feel like I am ripping my heart out when I leave my kid back at home and come to office. She too started with her list after she put her clip back into her hair. At the end we laughed out on our never ending list. Just came back to my seat and took out my lappy. So many emails in my outlook. I cursed mondays  and prayed  company should opt for holidays on monday too. Marked the important emails for later read and opened my facebook account. I never look upon the facebook notifications, but today I did. Today is our managers birthday! I thought we would go out for lunch and we would be treated well.. I was thinking like a mad hungry dog!! Suddenly my lync notification popped up "Hi" , it was from Shri. I replied "Hi, GM" .. "Brkfst"?, "yes" comes the reply and we started heading to cafeteria. I couldn't resist to share this to him as well.  " Hey you know whose birthday today?" I asked him with full excitement. He seemed hungry and unnoticed my question, and he hurried getting coupon for breakfast and I headed towards coffee. I came with the coffee and sat, so as he with his breakfast. I asked him again the same question ,He nodded his head signifying a big "No" . I said today is our manager's birthday and he might take us out for lunch. Before finishing my sentence , with mouth full of idli he started laughing.  " Do you think so?", "He couldn't take us out after his promotion even after promising last time". I was not aware of this part, as I was out on vacation during that time. I just kept quite. Started yelling about traffic through "Grafight" signal, walking through "EyeGate" with hurdle of girls and the idiotic emails from the on"sight". Though I met others at the cafeteria, I didn't tell anyone thinking they might also tell the same which Shri said. On my way back to my seat, saw my manager, but with no new expression. My eyes searched on his desk, couldn't notice sweets as well. The optimistic side of me was thinking "we still have time for sweets"! There were few more emails in my outlook. I just replied few, and opened my gmail. My friend was online. After long time started chatting with him. In between I said about my manager's birthday! He started pulling my legs and said  "You got lunch from right?".  Sportively I said, Yes, I can hand it over to my friends if we are going out for lunch! He pinged so many smilies at a time which I couldn't digest. "Dont be too excited about it, good that you got lunch from home as a backup" he said and vanished!! I started looking into my personal mails in gmail. Was doing my work looking beside for any sweets. No signs of it still!! Few minutes later Dinesh pinged me on lync. "Hi.. GM" . "Hi Dinesh" I replied. We were chatting about the as usual stuffs - "Hows work?" etc. I got a call in between and was occupied. "You know what?" Dinesh pinged again. Was in a call so just replied him "?????" , "your manager's birthday today" . Though was involved in the call, was happy that there is one more person who thinks and talk alike! "Oh yes Dinesh, I noticed that in FB" . "No use" was the reply from him. I couldn't understand this part and was clarifying some doubts to the other person on call. It was almost lunch time, I still had the hopes, but "No", this went in vain. My manager was as usual without leaving any signs of his special day! What an animal he is? I just thought myself and continued with my work. We were in a group chat for deciding  what time to leave for lunch. "She is going for the treat"  teases one, too many smilies in between. But after teasing session we went to cafeteria for lunch. I was just convincing everyone saying "It must be not real birth date, may be as per the marks card" . "Why does one put false date of birth in FB says one" . The queries and the answers were growing.. We couldn't put the right conclusion!! But my inner self was still expecting something. I was consoling, may be by evening we would get the surprise revealed, I thought. By evening, when our manager was out of desk, the other team members started asking us about the treat. We were clueless, and so as them. "We cannot get anything from him" says one from their team. And we just looked each others face and just winked and settled as nothing had happened. And its almost 5.30 in the evening. And "Still no signs". Chai and Britania cake treated us well at cafeteria. And people are still waiting for last years promotion treat of my manager!! My turn of expecting this years birthday treat is too much compared to that, but still in the queue. Might stay in the queue till next year, who knows!!!
